Quizzes – Setup a Default or an Additional View (Quiz Submission Views – show answers in a quiz)

One of the most useful components of the quiz tool is the submission view – the screen that learners see immediately after submitting a quiz.

By default, immediately after the Submit button is pressed, learners see two things:

  • a confirmation screen that reads “Your work has been saved and submitted
  • a score for that quiz attempt

However if you would like students to see the answers that they got correct or incorrect after they wrote the quiz, there are two options available. Depending on whether you wish to release the answers to students immediately or release the answers at a later date with a limited duration you may wish to assign either a Default View or an Additional View to your quiz.

Default View

Click on the quiz you would like to edit or choose the dropdown beside and click Edit

On the right bottom of the screen, select the dropdown for Evaluation & Feedback and Customize Quiz Results Displays

Select Edit View

From this page, you can Customize Quiz Results Displays

The message in this area will be displayed after the quiz is submitted by the student. Enter a personalized message for the students to see.

Under the Questions area, there are four choices to choose from. These options will determine what is seen immediately after the quiz is submitted

  • Don’t Show – only the message will appear to the student
  • All Questions
  • Incorrect questions only with learner’s responses
  • Correct questions only with learner’s responses

From each dropdown, there are options to choose from. Select what works best for your course

Select Update when completed.

Additional View

If learners are completing a quiz at different times, and the instructor wants to ensure that learners do not share the answer key with other learners, or the instructor wants to include feedback after the quiz has been submitted and scored, the instructor may choose to create an additional submission view.

Click on the quiz you would like to edit or choose the dropdown beside and choose Edit

On the right bottom of the screen, select the dropdown for Evaluation & Feedback and Customize Quiz Results Displays

Click on Additional View Button

    • *Note* students will only be able to review their exam for the number of specified minutes starting from the date you have selected and NOT when they first access their feedback.
    • CAUTION – this timing does not always work if the student has already tried to view their results. (Best to have two additional views – see NOTE at the end of this job aid).

Enter a message which will be displayed to all students and select the option under Grade if desired.

Under the Questions area, there are four choices to choose from. These options will determine what is seen to the student

  • Don’t Show – only the message will appear to the student
  • All Questions
  • Incorrect questions only with learner’s responses
  • Correct questions only with learner’s responses

From each dropdown, there are options to choose from. Select what works best for your course

Statistics

  1. Tick “Show Class Average” to have students see the average score across all student submissions for the quiz.
  2. Tick “Show Score distribution” to have student see a graph of all of the submitted student scores for this quiz

Select Create then Save when completed.

** Best to have TWO additional views. One to start the review and one to stop the review as the timing should not be used here. This also protects the view for a future rollover as the dates will be in the past.

Notes:

  • The Additional View overwrites the Default View, and once the Additional View is completed, the quiz goes BACK to the Default View.
  •  If the Additional View used with a time limit, it will close the quiz automatically so that the student is not able to view the quiz anymore.
  •  IP restrictions are not included in the Default View, but works in the Additional View.
  •  If you have provided feedback in your questions, the option to show questions MUST be enabled. ONE of the round (radio buttons) MUST be selected and check mark any or all of the square optional boxes
  • Best to have TWO additional views. One to start the review and one to stop the review as the timing should not be used here. This also protects the view for a future rollover as the dates will be in the past.
